Ladenburg Thalmann & Co., Inc. enters the millennium as a full-service banking and brokerage firm, embracing the future while never losing sight of its rich heritage. Ernst Thalmann, a well-known and widely respected American investment banker, joined with Adolph Ladenburg, a descendent of an established German banking family, to form Ladenburg Thalmann in 1876. By the time the firm joined the New York Stock Exchange in 1879, it quickly achieved a reputation on both sides of the Atlantic as one of the most influential private merchant banking firms. Consequently, Ladenburg Thalmann served as an important international arbitrageur-and a major financial intermediary-between America and Great Britain and the European continent.
